TRE - Car Router

TRE CarRouter is optimized for route calculations for cars, buses, trucks, and other motorized vehicles and is today used by i.e. industrial companies with the purpose of optimizing flows of goods in the forest industry and other areas.

Dynamic property handling

Based on the vehicle properties given in the request, TRE filters the road net in a completely dynamical way to find the roads allowed for the vehicle in question. This means that you can use the same TRE instance for your entire fleet and get individual route suggestions for each vehicle based on its specific properties (such as height and weight).

Speed model based on road topography

TRE’s speed model uses the road topology and other road properties to calculate the estimated traveling speed for different types of vehicles for each different road segment. Both horizontal and vertical curvature are considered to give the best prediction of the travel time.

Calculation of energy consumption and carbon footprint

Based on various factors and the characteristics of the road, TRE predicts the energy consumption of the suggested route. The algorithm considers the length of the route, both horizontal and vertical curvature of the road, the vehicle speed and total weight. The CO2 emission can be calculated from the energy consumption and fuel-specific emission factors.

Batch calculations

TRE can use e.g. CSV files as input to perform batch calculations and add distance information to other data.

Distance matrix calculations

To handle cases such as selecting the best commuter parking or determining the best vehicle suited to pick up a new delivery need, TRE CarRouter efficiently calculates the distance matrix from one source to many destinations or opposite. This functionality is also very useful for different types of transport analyses.
